How to Sign "Wear" in Sign Language

One popular way of small talk is to compliment what someone is wearing, and the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community is no different! With this, you can put together the sentence “I like what you’re wearing!”

Signing “Wear”

  1. Hand shape: Form your dominant hand into a “U” handshape. Form your non-dominant hand into a “1” handshape.
  2. Hand location: Use your non-dominant hand as a base, with your index finger facing your dominant side. Place your dominant hand’s wrist on top of your non-dominant hand’s index finger, with the palm facing your body.
  3. Movement: Sweep your dominant hand repeatedly across your non-dominant hand a few times
  4. Facial expression: Maintain a neutral facial expression, focusing on clarity of hand movements.
