How to Sign “Exam” in Sign Language

Unfortunately, midterms and finals aren’t always fun. But, at least now you know how to talk about them in American Sign Language!

Signing “Exam”

  1. Hand shape: Form both hands into a “1” handshape.
  2. Hand location: Raise both hands to about chest level.
  3. Movement: Bend index fingers while bringing both hands down to about torso level.
  4. Facial expression: For the most part, you can keep a neutral facial expression. If you are complaining about exams or tests, your facial expression and body language should express that.

Note

This is the same sign for “TEST.” It can be used in the context of testing something out in addition to the concept of a school-type of exam.
